Here's a rough, early test animation for one of the pieces I plan on using in my new design portfolio. I'm a complete newbie to After Effects, so the timing isn't exactly where I want it to be, and I have a lot of layers yet to add, but as a first effort, it's not bad. It's definitely got me pumped about the possibilities...

 

I've always gotten a lot of enjoyment from animating, but the idea of learning this new program and stepping beyond Flash and the web is truly a big thrill for me.  It's a gonna be a huge step towards designing motion for broadcast-- which is ultimately want I want to do for a living -- so I'm really, really excited.
