Maui Trip - 2007 --Part 3

Just got back into Denver from Maui-- Here's a whole bunch of snapshots and short video vignettes.

Maui's northwest coast, from helicopter.

Tidepool in Ka'anapali.

Honokohau-- photo made by possible by flagrant violation of rental car agreement.

Another snippet of our helicopter tour of west Maui and Moloka'i. Shown here are the cliffs on the south of the latter. Definitelty one of my favorite parts of the trip.

I often tease my Mom for developing entire rolls of film with nothing but snapshots of plants, but now I kinda get it.

We saw a big pod of these spinner dolphins on the way to snorkel off Lana'i; there were maybe 40 or 50 of these guys, either bow-riding like you see here, or doing sommersaults in the air.

Jen and I tearin' shit up on an ATV trip-- we're still clean in this photo. Minutes later, we were covered from head to toe in inch-thick red mud. Awesome!

The strangely hypnotic powers of the Hawaiian Jell-O pelvis.

I thought this was really cool-- shown above is Alaka'i, who was the mistress of ceremonies for the luau that Jen and I attended. She's also known by her DJ name, "The Morning Goddess" on KPOA, Maui's traditional island-music station. They're a client of ours at Liquid Compass
By random coincidence, she just happened to be emceeing the luau I had tickets for. I had seen her in photos when we built the station's website, and talked to her on the phone from time to time, but I had no idea she performed outside of the radio station. I was totally surprised when I recognized her as she walked out on stage.

Long story short, Alaka'i is hilarious, and it's obvious she loves what she does. She's got a very bawdy, Mae West, tongue-in-cheek sense of humor, and worked the crowd like a pro. She sings really well, and dances a mean hula too. It was really fun to see a business contact doing their thing outside of a work setting, and doing it well. I totally enjoyed it.

Being sick on vacation is the pits indeed. But it looks like you still got to do everything you had planned and that you had fun anyway! You're a goog photographer. I always want my vacatino photos to look like yours, but they never do. They look like I was trying to make them look like yours and didn't quite get it. Hope to see you and Jen soon soon soon!
The flu was pretty lousy, but I tried my best to tough it out, and I did end up having a wonderful time anyway. I'm not so much a good photographer, as I am a decent point-and-shooter whose logged an assload of hours in Photoshop, correcting other peoples' crappy photos. =) Trust me, I have about 100 more pics, and most of them are typical, run-of-the-mill tourist snaps. I blew at least 50 potentially-brilliant photo-ops on this trip. I went through about 15 unintelligibly fuzzy blurs of sea turtles last night that made me want to kick myself. Damn! I learned a little about composition and stuff from Tage, but in all honesty, I'm usually too impatient for that crap. I just point and click most of the time. I did take a whole bunch with a cheap, disposable underwater camera that I'm anxious to get developed. I'm really, really hoping some of those turned out good. I can't wait!
Gorgeous!!! Glad you had such a fun time, but sorry you got sick from a shitty baby. By the way, how'd you score such a hot girlfriend? I tease because I love. Patrick and Sammy Say "HI!"
